Ladybrille Music: Afro-Semitic Experience Launches Afro-Jazzy Jewish Holiday Album
Ladybrille Magazine
August 16, 2011
The uber talented music group, Afro-Semitic Experience, will release their new album on September 13th, 2011 called ‘Further Definitions of the Days of Awe,’ a nod to Benny Carter and his influence on the band’s music. The album features jazz compositions orchestrated by bassist David Chevan paired with grandiose vocals from 4 different featured cantors. This album was recorded in three different synagogues at various services throughout the 2010 High Holy Days.
The Afro-Semitic Experience has discovered how they can make sacred music danceable and well-worth listening to beyond occasional commemoration. With prejudice and social inequality returning to the forefront of popular discussion as a result of rioting in London, this is a band that exemplifies racial (and spiritual) harmony. While the catastrophe in London makes this relevant now, this album release will also be timely throughout the next 6 weeks because of the following Jewish holidays:
2011 Jewish High Holy Dates:
Rosh Hashanah is Sept. 29 & 30
Yom Kippur is Oct. 8
Sukkot (Festival of Shelters) is Oct. 13
Shmini Atzeret (Festival of Rejoicing the Torah) is Oct. 20 & 21
