CHICAGO — Chicago is remembering Pulitzer Prize-winning author Studs Terkel, who would have turned 100 this Wednesday.
Officials rededicated a bridge over the Chicago River that's named for the writer and oral historian in a celebration Saturday.
Terkel, who captured the essence of Chicago in the pages of his best-selling oral histories, died in 2008. His work chronicled the lives of common people and celebrities alike.
The Division Street Bridge was first named for Terkel 20 years ago. The street's name is reflected in the title of his first book of oral history, published in 1966. The book is called "Division Street: America."
Saturday's events were festive and included music by the Mucca Pazza marching band as well as some drinks at a nearby bar.
