The Language of the Trumpet
Great jazz legends like Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Chet Baker all played a traditional trumpet with three valves.
But in the early sixties a musician from Lebanon called Nassim Maalouf invented a trumpet with a fourth valve so he could play Arabic as well as Western music.
His son Ibrahim has followed in his father's footsteps and you can hear him play his four-valve trumpet on his new album, Diagnostic.
Arts correspondent Rebecca Jones went to speak to him ahead of his UK performances.
