"Will Soon Be A Woman"
Playing on Thursday at Drom (85 Avenue A, East Village)
Get: Tickets (Free with RSVP) | Directions

Ibrahim Maalouf is a Lebanese trumpeter and composer based in France. His father, Nassim, is a celebrated Lebanese trumpeter who famously added a fourth valve to a trumpet in order to adapt it for the various modes of Arabic music.

Ibrahim builds on this rich musical background by weaving in strands of Balkan brass (as can be heard in “Missin Ya” below), Western pop, jazz and classical into his compositions.

Maalouf performs twice on Thursday. In the early evening, he will be participating in the day-long citywide music celebration Make Music New York at the French Embassy, which is located at 972 Fifth Avenue on the Upper East Side. Later that night, Maalouf takes the stage at Drom.

For a sneak peek of what to expect, download “Will Soon Be A Woman” from Maalouf’s latest album Diagnostic.
