The Walt Disney Concert Hall welcomes Kodo, the acclaimed performing arts ensemble of Niigata Prefecture, Japan, on February 5, as part of the group’s One Earth Tour 2013: Legend. The performance features several re-envisioned works and new pieces with high-energy percussion, traditional music, dance and the physical prowess needed to sustain the precise and powerful sound of the group’s hallmark taiko - the nearly 900-pound drum. In Japanese, “Kodo” has two meanings. The first is “heartbeat,” the primal source of all rhythm; the second is “children of the drum,” reflecting the group’s desire to play the drums simply, with the heart of a child. For over 30 years they have explored the limitless possibilities of the traditional Japanese taiko drum.  02/01/13 >> go there
