In Japan, "Kodo" can mean either "heartbeat" or "children of the drum," and while these versatile performers play a variety of instruments - some huge, some extraordinarily delicate-it is their awesome drums (the massive o-daiko weighs 900 pounds!) that mesmerize the audience. Perfectly in unison, they wield their sticks like expert swordsmen, evoking thrilling images of ancient and modern Japan.
