Staff Benda Bilili, a band of street musicians from the Congo who have survived childhood polio, perform Friday, Oct. 19, 8 p.m., at Jorgensen Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Connecticut.

The band is backed up by kids who were abandoned during the war in Kinshasha, the capital of the Congo. The four members of the band use adult size tricycles for mobility. Their music is a blend of rumba, reggae and R&B.

In 2012 they released 'Bouger Le Mond' ('Move the World'), a follow up to their debut album in 2009, 'Tres Tres Fort' ('Very Very Strong'). The band was the focus of a documentary that screened at the 2010 Cannes Film Festival.

Jorgensen is at 2132 Hillside Road in Storrs. Tickets are $34 and $36. Information: 860-486-4226 and jorgensen.uconn.edu.
