World Music Wednesday: Fanfare Ciocarlia Aug8 by incognitomusicmagazine
Just try to keep up with the tempo of this band.
For some reason brass bands have a reputation as being square. I’m not really sure why that is. OK, so maybe not every kid grows up saying he wants to play a tuba or something like that. But when you listen to brass bands, what do you hear? Bright, happy sounds that make you want to dance like you’re celebrating something. I ask you, loyal reader, what’s square about that?
Fanfare Ciocarlia is a Gypsy brass band from Romania and I will tell you this. It is damn near impossible to be in a bad mood when you hear this music. But don’t just take my word for it. Check out the response of the audience in this video and let me know if you think they’re having a good time. So consider this my gift to you, loyal reader, in the middle of the work week: some music that will put you in a good mood. It’s up to you how long that good mood lasts.
