Last month closed with the opening of City Winery Chicago’s concert hall. Acoustically-sound and aesthetically-pleasing, the winery/restaurant blends specifically-chosen libations with live performances. The concept proved to be a winning combination on August 28 when the Waco Brothers rocked the house with T.Rex tunes, followed by a set of their own songs. The transition from Glam to Rockabilly was as smooth as the pairing of wine, beer and port.

Hot on the tails of this weekend’s John Sebastian concert, is a lineup of September acts featuring: Charlie Mars and Michael McDermott (Sept. 2); the Yardbirds (Sept. 5); the jazz-bluegrass combo David Grisman Sextet (Sept. 6-7); singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega (Sept. 8-9); Exiles on Randolph Street (Sept. 10); Teitur (Sept. 11); Gonzalo Bergara Quartet (Sept. 12); Southside Johnny and The Poor Fools (Sept. 13); Brazilian pop chanteuse Bebel Gilberto (Sept. 14-15); Joan Osborne residency (Sept. 16-17); Acoustic Strawbs and John Wesley Harding (Sept. 18); Richard Thompson (Sept. 19); pop star Matthew Sweet (Sept. 20-21); Patterson Hood (Sept. 22-23); Deolinda (Sept. 24); Fanfare Ciocarlia (Sept. 25); Nanci Griffith (Sept. 26-27); the legendary Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople fame (Sept. 28-29); and Girlyman (Sept. 30).

On Thursday, November 22, City Winery Chicago invites guests to Spend Thanksgiving with Rickie Lee Jones as she performs covers by the Rolling Stones and Rod Stewart as well as hits from her 30+-year career. A prix fixe, three-course dinner paired with three 2-ounce pours of wine is available with a VIP ticket for $100.
