Sept. 22: The virtuosic twelve-piece Romanian Gypsy brass band Fanfare Ciocarlia headlines the eighth annual New York Gypsy Festival. The group, embarking on its first North American tour in nine years, hails from a small village called Zece Prajini, in northeastern Romania. Their impossibly fast and frenetic style is infectious, whether they are covering Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild,” as they did for Sacha Baron Cohen’s “Borat,” or playing traditional Eastern European material. (For more information on the festival, which runs through Sept. 30, visit nygypsyfest.com.)
