TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 11 Annual Concert for Peace: Harmony – East Meets West Fulcrum Point New Music Project, the city’s leader in new art music and inventive collaborations, commemorates the September 11th tragedy with the Annual Concert for Peace, this year subtitled Harmony – East Meets West, featuring globally inspired music and guest performers ranging from Native American to Chinese, Indian-American and Israeli. The Fulcrum Point ensemble, led by its Founder and Artistic Director Stephen Burns, will be joined by special guest artists, Native American flutist R. Carlos Nakai, local acoustic band Zamin led by vocalist Zeshan Bagewadi, trained in Indian vocal techniques, and flutist Mary Stolper. Repertory selections performed by Fulcrum Point include Israeli composer Shulamit Ran’s “East Wind” for solo flute, David Dzubay’s “Wintu Dream Song,” based on a Native American song from the Wintu tribe, and Chinese composer Zhou Long’s otherworldly “Harmony,” blending traditional Chinese and contemporary Western music styles. WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 12 Horizonte (compilation of music and dance of Chile) is a folkloric group whose principal mission is to promote Chilean culture. This event is a partnership with the Chilean Consulate as a celebration of Chilean Independence.
