PORT LUDLOW — As the International String Trio of folk players arrives Friday, a cultural and musical tour is set to lift off.

The trio — Russian-born guitarist Slava Tolstoy, Japanese acoustic bassist Ippei Ichimaru, British violinist Ben Powell — will alight at the Port Ludlow Bay Club, 120 Spinnaker Place, for a concert titled “Music from Around the World.”

This trio draws not only from the folk genre but also from the popular and classical worlds. The players' 7:30 p.m. show will pay visits to Appalachia for old-time music, Europe for Gypsy swing, Ireland for traditional reels, Argentina for tango and then back to America for bluegrass.

For good measure, the threesome also mixes in some celebratory klezmer and French musette.

The International String Trio's members have all attended Boston's Berklee College of Music. Tolstoy, the group's founder, came on scholarship after studying at the St. Petersburg Jazz School in Russia.

Tickets are $24 at the Bay Club and at www.PortLudlowArtsCouncil.com; to check availability, phone 360-437-2208. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Friday, so patrons can choose their seats and enjoy a pair of art displays.

Port Ludlow Arts Council member Judy Danberg is showing her colorful quilts and wearable art, much of which integrates her passion for beadwork.

And Gary Settle, also a member of the Ludlow arts council, presents “Passion on a String,” a photo exhibit celebrating musicians who have appeared here over the years.

Friday' concert is presented by the Port Ludlow Arts Council with a TourWest grant from the Western States Arts Federation, or WESTAF, and support from the National Endowment for the Arts. Earlier in the day, the International String Trio will give a master class for students in Chimacum School's Pi String Orchestra.
