Yoga Chicago, Album Review >>

Putumayo Presents World Yoga i s a collection of ambient songs originating from landlocked Mali to the shores of Portugal and beyond. Following the arc of a yoga class, World Yoga begins quietly, then builds some gentle tapas , releasing into some nice spacious jams. There are some familiar artists, such as DJ Drez and Deva Premal with Miten. Sean Johnson and The Wild Lotus Band add a compelling offering with their mellow, quiet “Ramachandra.” This is a great way to dip your toe into musical waters from around the globe. The UK's 9Bach use harp, harmonium, and glockenspiel to create some beguiling magic with beautiful Welsh lyrics. I am now going to investigate more of their music. Sona Jobarteh, from Gambia/UK has one of the most soothing voices around, while Sweden's Tiny Island closes the CD with a chill-out instrumental, savasana style. World Yoga indeed!    01/15/13 >> go there
