One of the most loved Quebec folk outfits, the four-member ensemble Le Vent du Nord (Wind from the North) bring an eclectic mix of fiddle and hurdy-gurdy to the Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center at Pacific University in Forest Grove on Saturday, Nov. 10.

Delivering catchy traditional folk music in both English and their native French, ‘Le groupe’ consists of Nicolas Boulerice (vocals, hurdy-gurdy, piano, piano accordion), Olivier Demers (fiddle, electric guitar, clogging, mandolin, vocals) and Réjean Brunet (basses, diatonic accordion, jaw harp, piano, vocals).

Since the band’s founding in 2002, Le Vent du Nord, known for their energetic and generous stage presence, have become ambassadors of Francophone and leading exponents in Quebec’s culture and traditional folk music revival.

The quartet has performed more than 1,000 concerts across Europe and North America, winning critical acclaim and racking up several prestigious awards, including two Junos (Canada’s Grammy), a Canadian Folk Music Award, and ‘Artist of the Year’ at the North American Folk Alliance Annual Gala.

Le Vent du Nord has collaborated and performed with Harry Manx, Vsen, The Chieftains, Breton musical pioneer Yann-Fañch Kemener, Québecois roots legend and master storyteller Michel Faubert, hip Scottish folk band Breabach, and the trans-Mediterranean ensemble Constantinople.

The band is touring on its seventh album, this year’s Tromper le temps.

Through the course of the thirteen tracks the four multi-instrumentalists take listeners on a contagious daydream through historical Quebec with provocative texts and poetic descriptions.

The band is touring cities throughout the United States until early December when it heads back to Canada to play concerts for northern folk into the new year.

Le Vent du Nord performs Saturday, Nov. 10 at Pacific University’s Taylor-Meade Performing Arts Center in Forest Grove at 7:30 p.m.
