Words can create a new, uncanny world. They can tie down the meaning of a musical piece—or inspire and liberate its performers. The poetry and words that underpin Orchid Ensemble’s live repertoire and new recording, Life Death Tears Dream, conjure otherworldly landscapes, wandering spirits, and ethereal loves. All while integrating traditions rarely considered compatible.

Comprised of a worldly trio who plays a marimba, erhu, and a zheng, respectively, Orchid Ensemble creates a gorgeous avante-Chinese folk-classical that incorporates Hebrew, Spanish, British, and Chinese poetry.

Now this dream-like realm will come to American stages, as part of Orchid Ensemble’s spring 2013 U.S. tour, with stops in Milwaukee, Detroit, and the Cleveland area, among others. Collaborating with choirs from Kent State and KSU Stark, engaging with the community in several U.S. cities, and playing concerts, the ensemble will give audiences a set of performance experiences as diverse as the worldly group’s distinctive repertoire.

Starts at 11:30 AM on March 12th, 2013 Alverno College Chapel 3400 S. 43st St. 3400 S. 43rd St. Milwaukee, WI 53234
