Orchid Ensemble in Concert at UNC Asheville October 10

Established in 1997, Orchid Ensemble blends ancient musical instruments and traditions from China and beyond, creating a beautiful new sound. Watch and listen to these masters of Chinese instruments and Western percussion perform on Thursday, October 10, at 7 p.m. at UNC Asheville’s Lipinsky Auditorium.

Ensemble members are Lan Tung on Chinese violin, Yu-Chen Wang on Chinese zither, and Jonathan Bernard on percussion.

The group’s music styles include the traditional and contemporary music of China, world music, new music, jazz, as well as creative improvisation.

Hailed as “One of the brightest blossoms on the world music scene” by Georgia Straight, the Orchid Ensemble has toured across North America, giving more than 70 performances every year. Past venues include The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and the Smithsonian Institution’s Freer Gallery. General admission tickets are $20 with special prices ranging from $5–12 for UNC-Asheville students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Asheville-area students.
