Passing on Thursday, May 16 at the Salle Pierre-Mercure of the University of Quebec in Montreal with a classical orchestra of ten musicians, Ludovico Einaudi, from his hotel room overlooking the city of Manhattan, New York, kindly gave us a few minutes on the phone this morning to discuss his eleventh album, very orchestral In a Time Lapse .

"This is probably the richest and most successful of my albums, but with an orchestra, it's always easy to exaggerate. It's like when you prepare a dessert; sometimes too much is just too much,” said the Milanese pianist, confiding in us, without a certain expression of humor. Reflecting about time, the time already lived, and the deep emotions that fuel people daily, this eleventh album by the Italian composer, whose name is on everyone's lips since the movie Untouchables by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, is also his most orchestral work today.

The deluxe edition includes nineteen pieces done, and despite the very personal nature of the album, Ludovico Einaudi does not at all seem to have thrown his experiences and emotions into his compositions: " In a Time Lapse is actually a reflection on time. We always travel quickly, taking the plane rather than walking, and the album is just built around the idea that it is possible to stop and contemplate every detail that surrounds us. We can be connected with our environment; it just means we need to think and stop. "

His compositions, always as soft as velvet, are dotted with small electronic textures that give full weight to this contemplative classical music and film. "The end result is better. The electronic textures made ??by computer, allow me to always find the sound that is wanted, in addition to color my melodies.” In a Time Lapse is actually a melting pot of his three flagship albums, The Wave (2004), Nightbook ( 2009) and Divenire (2011), as new melodies oscillate constantly between calm and agitation, the classical orchestration and electronic textures, with the result this time being a work from long breaths and moments of experienced unrest.

With over sixty concerts to his credit in recent months, Ludovico Einaudi is a busy artist who has not really had the opportunity to carry out other projects in parallel. This does not stop him, however, to savor the small moments of life, especially listening to Bach, his idol: "His compositions are a blend of human emotions and spiritual moments of life. It contains a mathematical complexity and a supernatural richness that I admire ever the outcome. "

This apostle of Bach, who used his last visit to Oscar Peterson Hall to visit friends and artists, will return to the Montreal area on Thursday at the Salle Pierre-Mercure of the University of Quebec at Montreal (UQAM) with a classical orchestra of ten musicians, eight of which being stringed instruments.
