For 41 years, fiddlers, guitarists and lovers of all things stringed have made their way to Battle Ground for the Indiana Fiddlers’ Gathering.

This weekend, those music lovers will meet in Tippecanoe Battlefield Park for mingling, workshops and jam sessions. Big acts, including Vishten, Betse Ellis, Frank Vignola and more, will take the stage at 8 p.m. Friday, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.

Vishten, a Canadian trio, performed at the Tippecanoe Arts Federation earlier this year, but this is the group’s first Fiddlers’ appearance. The group hails from the Magdalen Islands, member Emmanuelle LeBlanc said, and brings an Acadian sound, blending French lyrics with a Celtic swing. LeBlanc said that light feel with loads of energy should fit perfectly with the outdoor setting.

And Vignola said that’s why he loves the Fiddlers’ Gathering.

Vignola, whom executive director Kirk Hallman called one of the best guitar players around, said that he likes to play songs people know and to keep it fun and that when thousands flock to Battle Ground with the same goal, it’s special.

“We just try to come and be part of it,” he said.
