The Krayolas (the K spelling? The Kinks!) rock out with some Tex-Mex garage band power-pop on their new disc Tormenta (Box Records / July 30). Wearing their influences on their sleeves (and check out those sleeves on their Nudie-like leisure suits!) they offer listeners the perfect summertime party disc. Formed in 1975 by Hector and David Saldana and joined by Van Baines on drums they had some regional success before a temporary retirement of 22 long years. Reformed in 2008 the band has stayed true to their original inspirations and influences: an assortment of bands from the British Invasion, Nuggets-era garage rock, Bob Dylan and their Tex-Mex roots (including the late Doug Sahm, Flaco Jiminez and Augie Meyers). It's 2013 and the legendary Flaco Jimenez (“Piedras Negras”) and Augie Meyers ("Little Fox") appear as special guests on Tormenta and that says quite a bit about the Krayolas' credibility! If that's not enough to persuade you to check out the band how about a bilingual cover of the Ramones “I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend/Quiero Ser Tu Novio"
