We Heart Music, Concert Review >>

Opening up was Mr. Hide, from Minneapolis, who did a mix of original songs ("The Circle", "The Question") and cover songs (Kinks's "I Need You", Castaways's "Liar Liar", Love's "My Little Red Book", etc.) Based on their cover songs, I would say that the band loves the 60s.

I've seen CAVE before, so I knew what to expect from this math/Krautrock band. Their music takes you on a journey, simply put. It will start off like a formulaic instrumental, but just when you're used to the progression, the song will suddenly shift gears. I love it.

All of CAVE's songs are epic in its length, so basically they played five songs that took over 45 minutes to complete.

Like CAVE, Tal National's set featured six songs in total, seven if you counted the long intro/soundcheck song.

The band (complete with a dedicated dancer) originally had to cancel some of their initial U.S. shows due to Visa issues, but they eventually made their way to Minneapolis to bring hope, dance, music, and love.

Both CAVE and Tal National are heading on different tours (see CAVE's dates here); CAVE is currently on tour in support of Threace (October 15th on Drag City) and Tal National is in support of Kaani (September 10th on Fat Cat).
