Music Week Presents: Kuenta I Tambu

Kuenta i Tambu have created a new sound which is inspired by traditional Afro-Caribbean music from Curaçao and blended with European Dance. They've found an unimpeachable balance between electronic sound samples, singing and chanting over infectious rhythms played on ritual tambú drums. Reminiscent of the sounds and songs you hear from different floats at Notting Hill Carnival every year, KiT have mastered fusing them into one.

This genre of music has often been referred to as Global Bass or Tambutronic, regardless of what it's called, the music is a wild and colorful explosion of energy. Kuenta i Tambu translates to “Stories and Drums” from Papiamentu, which is the native language of the Dutch Caribbean islands Curaçao, Aruba and Bonaire. The Amsterdam-based collective formed in 2005 after a series of educational projects at schools and theaters to introduce the music and culture of Curaçao to children in the Netherlands.

The band are supported by The Dutch Impact who are a body responsible for exposing Dutch artists and bands overseas by organising showcases and performances.
