The Recording Academy Texas Chapter played host for GRAMMYs On The Road At South by Southwest during the conference's 26th annual installment from March 9–18 in Austin, Texas. The Chapter conducted exclusive backstage interviews with artists participating during the music portion of the conference, including electro pop outfit Brite Futures and punk rock group Regents.

Brite Futures discussed the evolution of the band's name, performing at South by Southwest, musical influences, and their biggest career moments, among other topics.

"When I'm creating something I like to think about the [live audience] and us playing it to them and seeing how [they would] react to [it]," said Brite Futures' Luke Smith. "Would it make people want to put their hands up and whoop and holler [and] dance, or would it make them want to sit and cry? Either is fine, but it's good to have that in mind."

Brite Futures, formerly known as Natalie Portman's Shaved Head, were formed in Seattle by classmates Shaun Libman (vocals) and Smith (guitar/vocals). They played their first major show at the grand opening of 826 Seattle and in 2008 released their debut full-length album, Glistening Pleasure. They subsequently toured with artists including CSS, the Go! Team and Matt & Kim. In September 2011 the group released their first album as Brite Futures, Dark Past, which the band describes as "punk rock Abba disco Osmonds with chainsaws." Brite Futures currently consists of Claire England (vocals/bass/keyboards), Libman, David Price (keyboards/guitar/vocals), Smith, and Conor Sisk (drummer).

Regents discussed the band's evolution and touring, among other topics.

"We're much more into the experience of kind of going back to where we were 20 years ago — playing in basements for kids who are just going to go nuts and it's really fun to do that in new countries and new places because they're so hungry," said Regents vocalist/guitarist Drew Ringo.

Formed in Washington, D.C., Regents brings together members of some of the most influential hardcore acts of the '90s. The band features drummer Jason Hamacher (Frodus), bassist Lukas Previn (Thursday), and guitarist/vocalist David NeSmith and Ringo (Maximillian Colby, Sleepytime Trio). In 2011 the band released a self-titled four-song EP on vinyl. Regents are currently working on their forthcoming full-length debut album, and have plans to tour the United States and Southeast Asia in 2012.
