With the Klezmatics, Frank London helped revive interest in klezmer, the happy-sad Jewish music of Eastern Europe. With his new group, the trumpeter takes klezmer on a ride through its wildest sides-through throaty abandon, brassy exuberance and giddy melancholy. London's stated goal is to explore the emotional links between Jewish party music and the torrid sounds of the Brazilian carnival. There are hints of this here and there. Mostly, Carnival Conspiracy is an excellent example of what London has always done best-making the age-old rhythms of klezmer feel limber again.
