Desert blues from an all female Tuareg vocal group based in Mali and their male guitarists (women can only play drums and fiddles in Tuareg society). Its simplicity is the key to its appeal: whether solo singers emoting over lightly strummed guitar, or trance-like call-and-response vocals over rudimentary percussion and handclaps, there is clearly something with deep resonance emanating from these grooves. 06/01/03
