Saturday May 10 presents us with a difficult choice. At Berklee Performance Center at 8 p.m., Mariza, the most spectacular of Portugal’s young fado divas, will perform with her trio. Mariza brings an explosive voice and a luminous vitality to this melodious, melancholy song style, making the music of old Lisbon’s musty cafés and bars fresh and compelling. But if you were lucky enough to catch one of her sets at Scullers last year, you might want to slip off to the Somerville Theatre, where at 9 p.m. the Israeli ensemble Habrera Hativeet will perform an unusual selection of Jewish music from all over the Middle East and North Africa. Since 1977, this group have combined Israeli, Arabic, Western, and Persian instruments and musical ideas to arrive at an authentic music of the Jewish Diaspora, a sound that bridges secular and religious as well as Oriental and Western worlds. Both shows are presented by World Music (617-876-4275). 03/27/03 >> go there
