Sun-Sentinel, TransAtlantic fest: All coastal, all cool >>
The Inaugural TransAtlantic Festival, running Wednesday through May 10 in Miami Beach, has exactly the geographic contours indicated by its name. The festival's Miami Beach-based promoter, the Rhythm Foundation, bills this five series as a convergence of modern world music from the Atlantic cities...by the artist who move between them.
Some of the coastal cities in the Atlantic archipelago-which is far from merely imaginary in today’s interconnected world- would be:
Libson, Portugal, where singer Mariza grew up immersed in the sumptuous melancholy of fado, a genre sometimes referred to as Portuguese blues. Mariza, hailed as a successor to fado legend Amalia Rodriquez, makers her Florida debut at 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Theatre, 541 Lincoln Road. Tickets are $20 and $35 through Ticketmaster (561-966-3309) the Rhythm Foundation (305-672-5202 and Mariza co presenter Tigertail Productions (305-324-4337).
