This band calls itself the Gypsy/Yiddish Boyband of a Lost Era. You know fun is ahead. The band's name, Les Yeux Noirs, is French for The Black Eyes, the title of a Russian gypsy song. They play a mix of traditional and original Jewish and Gypsy songs of travel, love, celebration and lament.

Les Yeux Noirs, formed 10 years ago, is led my two incredible violinist brothers, Eric and Olivier Slabiak. The six other musicians play guitar, accordion, cello, bass, percussion and cimbalom.

This live recording showcases each member of the band at some point, but is led by the Slabiak brothers on a pair of violins. This music is full of emotion, at times high-spirited, at times melancholy. To see and hear this band play live must be a fun, but exhausting experience.

There isn't a disappointing track to be heard on this CD. It's great fun to listen to. One of my favorite tracks showcases the cimbalon. When I first heard it I knew what it was, but I didn't yet know its name. Many people would recognize it as a cousin to the hammered dulcimer.

Key Tracks: "Cymbalum"
