France’s Les Yeux Noirs wasn’t the first group to note, then explore, the stylistic connections between Gypsy music and klezmer, but the octet may be the only ensemble to make that musical kinship the basis for an entire body of work. While Les Yeux Noirs’ latest album, “Live” (World Village), is notable for its authoritative Gypsy/klezmer-style musicianship and the gorgeous tenderness of its ballads, it’s the group’s white-hot energy and lively virtuosity that make the disc an unforgettable effort. 02/06/04
