Hearing them on CD is one thing, but French gypsy/klezmer group Les Yeux Noirs' live show is a once-in-a-lifetime experience you can have over and over. Though the brothers Slabiak's incredible violin acrobatics were the main attraction at the Kuumbwa, every instrument (violoncello, cimbalom, bass, drums, guitar) had its "oof!" moments. Epiphany came during a playful back-and-forth between the violinists, which ended with the Slabiaks playing interlocking melodies on one violin. Imagine being present at the moment the atom was first split, and you're getting an idea of the kind of awe these boys inspired. Don't miss 'em next time around. 07/29/04
