Bio Ritmo's roots are experimental percussion as a drummer's ensemble, but as the salsa group evolved over it's 12-year lifespan, more traditional forms emerged. The Virginia-based nine-piece made a minor splash with the underheard Que Sigue La Musica in the mid-'90s, but was often dismissed as Squirrel Nut Zippers-hangers on eager to sport a zoot suit. The group's new album Bio Ritmo, released on its own Locutor Records, reveals a band eager to return to the roots of Latin dance. 03/31/04
