ACOUSTIC BRAZIL (Putumayo): This too is a collection intended for the body as well as the mind. It presents Caetano Veloso, Gal Costa, Chico Buarque, Paulinho da Viola and a new generation of singers continuing the Portuguese acoustic samba tradition. Music does not have to be loud to be danceable. When you dance to Afro-Cuban music and the samba, you are essentially dancing to folk music rather than the industrial, sub-woofer-soaked, subhuman, electronic noise that is produced by the so-called First World. The samba was born, and lives on, on a bright spring day. 03/23/05
