Goings On About Town: Night Life Marcel Khalife
April 29: The Lebanese oud master Marcel Khalife celebrates the release of his new album, “Fall of the Moon.” Though he began his musical career studying traditional Arabic music and was once a professor of the oud at the National Conservatory in Beirut, Khalife’s musical imagination has always been restless, and over the years he has incorporated Western harmony and counterpoint into his music. The new album marries his compositions with stirring, at times wrenching poems about exile and identity by the Palestinian national poet Mahmoud Darwish, a longtime collaborator who died four years ago and described Khalife as his “heart’s artistic twin.”
