A visionary in the arena of Afro-pop, Bembeya Jazz predates Senegal's Orchestra Baobob by 11 years and Mali's Super Rail Band by a decade. Formed in 1961, this rich ensemble releases its first recording in 14 years. "Bembeya" offers new works and new twists on some of the group's tracks from the 1960s ("Bembeya"), '70s ("Sanfaran") and '80s ("Yelema Yelemaso"). The disc also highlights the band's signature four-guitar section, which is led by Sekou (Diamond Fingers" Diabate. Bembeya sounds as vibrant as ever - pouring out the deep grooves with lots of swinging soul.
