The Guinean ensemble boasts 12 members and 43 years as a dedicated provider of vintage Afrobeat. Bembeya Jazz's brassy, guitar-laced undulations are the essence of original Afro-Cuban bop, pop and soul, and have found their way into the music of several continents. Paul Simon's The Rhythm of the Saints, for one, draws on the deep, embroidered grooves that groups such as Bembeya Jazz and Senegal's Orchestra Baobab pioneered. Led of late by famed African guitarist Sekou "Diamond Fingers" Diabate, the ensemble is touring in support of Bembeya (World Village), its first album in 14 years, and makes its Florida debut this week. Bembeya Jazz headlines Fete de la Musique, a celebration of summer solstice , on Monday at the new Mary Brickell Village, South Miami Avenue at 10th Street, in downtown Miami. The festival runs 5 to 10 p.m. Admission is free. 06/20/04
