Zookbeat, CD Review >>
An impressive live recording of the 2003 Festival in the Desert. Most notably Ensemble Tartit, Afel Bocoum, Oumou Sangaré, Tiniwaren, take part of this compilation. Also, lesser known groups from Mali, Niger and Mauritania partake in this grand saharan extravaganza. Joining in... as well, are Western folkies (Robert Plant, Lo Jo, Adam Smith and co...) putting in their two cents in what was originally a musical gathering and musical festival of Tuareg and West African music. One hopes that the original intention of the festival remains..that of celebrating the beauty and magic of the region's music without Western trends infiltrating and "over producing" the event. 10/10/03 >> go there
