Leah Callahan; Even Sleepers
Baraca Records
I’ve read countless reviews that praise the debut-release of Leah Callahan and I am not just talking about page after page full of great review as a part of the press-release for this album, but in various zines I read on the internet. I mean, did she even get one bad review? She’s not going to get it here either, much to her liking I suppose. Anyway, Leah Callahan is not easy to categorize so maybe one should just avoid that by simply saying that the overall sound brings the best from lounge, jazz and folk to mind, but instead of ending up sounding like something that is played in some underground night club at four o’clock in the morning that nobody even listens to, this turns out to be just what the mainstream pop-scene has been looking for. I am not saying that Leah is going to be a star or anything (the ones that deserve to be stars seldom actually become it), but if Norah Jones could sell millions of albums, then Leah Callahan could too.
