[EXCERPT]

I've got a real soft spot for music that features a Zurna, probably because of all the perplexed looks I get when I play it. So I just love the new CD Old Street from Cascade Folk Trio. I am assured by their publicist that this music is all the rage in Armenia. And whether or not that's true, it's certainly popular here at Newledge headquarters. I particularly liked Garden Flowers, which I fully intend to blare from my open car window as soon as doing so won't induce death from hypothermia. It features infectious driving rhythms, a killer Zurna solo, and then unexpectedly veers into Acid Jazz, before coming back to Armenia for a landing. This might be because the vocals were all recorded in LA. Who knows? Just make more. I also like Gentle Boy, Graceful Girl, which is neither particularly gentle nor graceful, but deliciously loud and obnoxious. But since I tend to view Zurna music not so much as music but rather as potential ammunition against noisy neighbors, my priorities might be a bit skewed.
