The Cascade Folk Trio is a collaboration of three Armenian musician/singers. Arman Aghajanyan, Ohanna Mtghyan and Armen Papikyan individually achieved acclaim in their native country's pop and jazz world. Meeting in New York City they formed the trio as a way to work with Armenian folk melodies in a modern setting.

The Trio combines elements of jazz and popular music with Armenian melodies. They use a mixture of Armenian folk instruments and modern instrumentation to create an interesting sound. Some tracks have a pop jazz feel and some have a more rhythmic folk sound. All the lyrics are in Amenian.

I most liked the tracks that are based heavily on folk instrumentation, but music from any culture cannot forever stay at one point. Each new generation has to take their musical experience and adapt and expand it. It's well worth a listen.
