Traditionalists who embrace the present, this six-person ensemble digs deep into Polish folk music for their repertoire of tunes about love, the struggle for personal freedom and the slippage of time.  A couple of polkas pop up, as does a trance-inducing Indo-European mix that would have been big among late-‘60s trippers.  There’s even an electronic remix of an ancient tune, I Had a Lover, that would play well in a dance club.  Prominent frame and baraban drums give the selections their sense of urgency and rootedness, while fiddle, Jew’s harp and other instruments along with wailing vocals complete the picture.

Warsaw Village Band plays the Black Sheep stage, Thursday, July 15, at 7:45 p.m.
