Smother, CD Review >>
If you’ve been paying attention to this site for the past year than you’ll remember clearly when I totally fell in love with the Warsaw Village Band, if not I highly recommend that you look up our review of “People’s Spring”. Who could have possibly been prepared for this follow-up though? Not I. How on earth would I have expected this eclectic group of musicians to add turntablism to their traditional European folk sounds? Combine turntables with “white voices” (near screaming primeval vocals), cello, dulcimer, violin, szuka, and hurdy-gurdy (not just a funny word my friends). It’s a bizarre fusion to say the least but damn if it doesn’t work. I can’t say that I’ve been this excited by an album in a long time; if you don’t go out and own this album you are missing out on this year’s best and most interesting album.
