Ex-Centric Sound System West Nile Funk
The Ex-centric Sound System performs exuberant dance music grounded in African and Caribbean rhythms, but simultaneously influenced by rock, funk and pop styles. Multi-instrumentalist Nana Dadzie’s flamboyance on balafone kalimba, flutes, and kpanlogo drums nicely augments his enthusiastic chants and lead vocals. He’s joined by equally versatile musician Miss Adevo on most of the same instruments, while trap drummer Michael Avgil and bassist/guitarist and synthesizer programmer Yossi Fine provide additional texture, beats and patterns. Whether doing songs featuring West African elements like “Wadjo” “Ayoyo (Harvest Time),” and “Djibo,” or venturing into more contemporary territory on “Alice in Voodooland” and the title cut, the Ex-Centric Sound System plays furious, loud and enticing tunes that inspire audiences intellectually as much as physically.
