Get Rhythm

You've got bad cats and good dogs. You've got Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, and then you've got Zemog the Good Rooster. The latter is a Boston band formed by conga player Abraham Gomez-Delgado that goes by the Spanish moniker Zemog, El Gallo Bueno. Zemog is a hit down south, and by that we mean New York City. By hit, we mean ink in The New York Times. Times critic Jon Pareles took note of the band's self-titled album last year, writing that Zemog "twists salsa and Puerto Rican rhythms through key changing convolutions of Frank Zappa and Sun Ra. . . . It's alt-salsa as American party music." Gomez-Delgado and his four bandmates have been cramming onto the small stage at ZuZu! on Tuesday nights. (It's not exactly a Tuesday residency, but something close to it.) Reports club manager Lilli Dennison: "We get a real interesting mix of jazz heads, Latinos, art-school kids, and punk rockers - a real diverse crowd." As usual, ZuZu!'s price can't be beat: It's free. Starts around 10:30.
