Clave Magazine, CD Review >>

Yusa is a young new Cuban singer and guitarist who confirms that the tradition of classic trova —and its offshoot the bolero—, old or new, is still very much alive. As part of the new generation of musicians who have been influenced by pop, jazz, Brazilian bossa nova and of course, bolero and Cuban son, Yusa gives us a very impressive compilation of her own compositions with an extremely fresh sound, as if seeking to establish a new Cuban sound. The disc is produced by Pável Urquiza (of the Cuban duet Gema y Pável), a master guitarist of his own right. In his own words: “It’s a sui generis CD … responding to a tradition, a history of Cuban music where jazz, fílin, rumba, folklore, trova, new song… all merge into one.” Nobody could have said it better.
