Cranky Cow World Music, CD Review >>

Brazilian music needs no introduction.  Anyone reading the reviews on this site will at least be familiar with samba and bossa nova and with names such as Chico Buarque and Caetano Veloso who both appear on Putumayo Presents Acoustic Brazil.  This lovely disc features six women and six men performers, including the above mentioned plus, Monica Salmaso, Gal Costa, Paulinho da Viola, Anna de Hollanda (sister of Chico Buarque), Marcio Faraco, Teresa Cristina, Rita Ribeiro, Lucas Santtana, Glacia Nasser and Lula Queiroga.  The music ranges from breezy bossa novas and sambas to Ribeiro's folkloric Tem Quem Queira.  The vocals are suave and silky backed by light acoustic guitars, percussion with the occasional horn, clarinet or exotic instrument tossed in.  I have enjoyed listening to this compilation even if it is missing a couple of my favorite acoustic performers, Virginia Rodrigues and Celso Fonseca.  The upside is that I have been introduced to other upcoming performers that I might not have discovered outside of listening to this compilation. 05/01/05 >> go there
