San Francisco Station, Rachid Taha with Cheb i Sabbah Great American Music Hall >>
Rachid was born in Algeria, lives in Paris and is an outspoken global activist. His style of rock, funk, punk and Rai (Arabic pop music) is immensely popular almost everywhere else in the world especially in Europe and North Africa. Rachid is touring in support of his sixth solo album Tékitoi (Wrasse). Rachid told The New York Times earlier this year that there is little difference between our President and Osama bin Laden , both born wealthy with sand and oil in their blood. Expect an equally incendiary a set of music.
Local world beat DJ extraordinaire Cheb i Saabah spins an opening set. He just produced a brand new Moroccan influenced disk, La Kahena -- Les Voix du Maghreb out now on the Six Degrees label. Cheb i Sabbah also performs with the King of Rai, Khaled, at Stern Grove on July 10th.
