If polka legend Frank Yankovic and dubster Lee Perry birthed a child, this could be it. One listen to "Polka from teh Sieradz region" lets you know something new is forming in the Mazovia region of Poland. This young six-piece outfit is bent on redefining village music with a hip-hoppin' reggae slant, and its sophomore Uprooting proves even more dynamic and forward-thinking than its debut. The charged dulcimer and cello-led "In the Forest" and "Woman in Hell" are countered by the melancholic tones of "Let's Play, Musicians!" and "Grey Horse." The lyrical interplay of Maja Kleszcz, Magdalena Sobczak and Sylwia Swiatkowska on the harvest song "Matthew," fueled by a sparse violin and barbarian drum rhythm, speak about overcoming the fatigue of work through love. For as much as this band love reinterpretation, Poland is in great hands.
