If polka legend Frank Yankovic and dubster Lee Perry birthed a child, this could be it. One listen to "Polka from the Sieradz region" lets you know something new is forming in the Mazovia region of Poland. This young six-piece outfit is bent on redefining village music with a hip-hoppin’ reggae slant, and their sophomore Uprooting proves even more dynamic and forward-thinking than their debut. The charged dulcimer and cello-led "In the Forest" and "Woman in Hell" are countered by the melancholic tones of "Let's Play, Musicians!" and "Grey Horse." The lyrical interplay of Maja Kleszcz, Magdalena Sobczak and Sylwia Swiatkowska on the harvest song "Matthew," fueled by a sparse violin and barbaran drum rhythm, speak about overcoming the fatigue of work through love. For as much as this band loves reinterpretation, Poland is in great hands.
