Smother, CD Review >>
In Persia over a millennia ago a traveler would have stumbled upon masters of ghazal, which was a form of sung poetry that even found its way into India several hundred years later, but today it’s much harder to find anyone that knows what it is let alone can claim master skills. So when Kiran Ahluwalia found Vithal Rao she learned all she could from him. After honing her craft and learning Indian music especially acoustic Punjabi music, she set off to write her own material. In waltzes her self-titled album that follows her winning a Juno Award (the Canadian Grammy) in 2004 and promises to whisk us all away to a special far-off land. Guest artist Natalie MacMaster adds her skills with Celtic fiddling that creates a unique dynamic that twists the album into all new directions. Simply amazing. 05/30/05 >> go there
