Beat (The), CD Review >>
Kiran Ahluwalia (Triloka) is the self-titled offering from a young singer from the Punjab who studied with one of the last surviving singers of the sung poetry known as ghazal. The poems here are new, authored by various expats in Canada where Kiran lives, and she sings them in a beautiful high voice with a subtle, plugged-in backing. This is a melodic sound somewhere between the 100-year-old origin of these songs of love—good and bad—and Hollywood; very nice. 07/01/05
