This is Turkish Canadian Mercan Dede's fifth album exploring the interactions between electronic music, traditional acoustic Turkish music and Sufi mysticism. He also has a history as a rave DJ, but you can't really hear traces of that side of electronic music in this work. He's stacked the sonic stage with strong guest musicians, making electronic embellishments somewhat unnecessary. Su has already been well-received in Europe, and it's definitely a cut above the average ambient-world-beat noodling, but it still suffers at times from too much of that film score bombast and sonic glitter.
